BrandCat is adding trademark monitoring coverage for Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and North Macedonia.
We are finally adding a few offices from our home turf!
BrandCat was built in Serbia, which makes this expansion feel both natural and slightly overdue. We have spent plenty of time bringing large international and national trademark systems into one monitoring workflow. Now we are giving the Western Balkans some proper attention too.
Five Balkan Trademark Offices Added to BrandCat
The expanded coverage includes:

- 🇲🇰 SOIP North Macedonia - State Office of Industrial Property
Each office is available as its own trademark source inside BrandCat. Relevant records can be matched against monitored keywords and reviewed in the same results list used for the rest of BrandCat's trademark coverage.
That means these offices no longer need to sit outside the normal workflow as separate registries someone remembers to check occasionally.
Starting at Home Turf: IPO Serbia
Serbia is a particularly interesting addition because Serbian trademark records may contain both Cyrillic and Latin script.
That sounds simple until one record contains an owner in Latin script and a correspondent in Cyrillic. Treating the entire record as if it used one alphabet can produce poor translations, unchanged Cyrillic text, or misleading output.
BrandCat handles Serbian fields individually. It detects whether a supported field is written in Serbian Cyrillic or Latin, preserves the original registry value, and shows a Latin transcription or English translation.
The original Cyrillic value remains visible while its Latin transcription is displayed alongside it. This keeps the registry record intact while making names easier to recognize and compare with records from other jurisdictions.
Serbian Trademark Matches in One Results List
The results view provides the same practical fields available across other BrandCat trademark sources, including:
- trademark name
- owner or applicant
- correspondent or representative
- Nice classes
- application and registration numbers
- filing date
- simplified status
- trademark office source
Original Serbian fields and their transcribed or translated equivalents appear together, so the reviewer does not need to move between BrandCat, the original registry, and a separate translation tool just to understand a result.
Full IPO Serbia Trademark Details
Opening a Serbian match shows the complete record in BrandCat's normalized trademark detail view.
Depending on the available registry data, the detail view can include:
- application and registration numbers
- original and simplified status
- application, registration, and expiry dates
- owner details
- correspondent or representative details
- Nice classes
- Goods & Services
- original and translated or transcribed fields
The important part is not merely displaying more data. It is keeping that data readable and comparable with records from Albania, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, EUIPO, WIPO Madrid, and other monitored offices.
Translated Goods & Services
Across the newly added Balkan offices, BrandCat shows Goods & Services text translated into English while keeping the original registry wording visible.
Nice class numbers are useful, but the detailed Goods & Services wording is often what tells the reviewer whether a filing is actually relevant. A name match is only the first signal. The next question is what the application covers.
The screenshot above uses a Croatian record as the example, but the same translated Goods & Services workflow applies across the newly added Balkan trademark offices.
Translation Support Across the Region
The Balkans are a compact region with several languages, two scripts, plenty of diacritics, and registry records that do not always follow the same structure.
BrandCat preserves original source values and adds English translations or Latin transcriptions where they improve review. This can apply to fields such as:
- owners and applicants
- correspondents and representatives
- Goods & Services descriptions
- other registry-provided text
For Serbian and North Macedonian Cyrillic records, script-aware handling is especially useful. For Latin-script records from Albania, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia, translation can still matter even when transcription is unnecessary.
These are different problems:
- Transcription makes a name readable in another script while preserving how it sounds.
- Translation makes the meaning of registry text, such as a Goods & Services description, understandable in English.
BrandCat uses whichever treatment is appropriate for the field instead of pretending that every non-English record needs the same operation.

These are not the world's largest trademark offices, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
But filing volume is not the only reason an office matters.
A national Balkan filing can indicate:

- a new distributor or commercial partner
- regional brand expansion
- a defensive registration strategy
- adoption of a similar product or company name
- a potentially conflicting mark that has not appeared through EUIPO or WIPO Madrid
For companies selling into Southeastern Europe, regional manufacturers, ecommerce businesses, software companies, consumer brands, tourism businesses, and trademark portfolios with local exposure, these records can be highly relevant.
Smaller offices become blind spots when they are left as manual checks. Once they are part of the same monitoring workflow, their filings can be reviewed according to relevance instead of registry size.

EUIPO and WIPO Madrid remain essential sources for European trademark monitoring, but they do not eliminate the need to watch national offices.
An applicant may choose a national filing because its commercial plans are local, because it is protecting a mark step by step, or because a national route makes sense for that particular business.
BrandCat now makes it easier to review national filings from Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and North Macedonia alongside broader European and international records.
That gives reviewers a more complete picture without creating five new manual search routines.

And, honestly, it is nice to see more flags from the neighborhood in the dashboard.
