BrandCat Now Monitors Brazilian Trademark Filings (INPI Brazil)

We're expanding BrandCat's trademark coverage again.

BrandCat now supports trademark monitoring from Brazil (INPI – Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial).

INPI Brazil trademark data is monitored continuously and matched weekly against your protected keywords.

Why Brazil Matters

Brazil sees roughly 400,000 to 500,000 trademark applications per year.

That’s about 2.5% to 3% of global trademark activity.

Not massive compared to China, but far from insignificant, especially given that most filings come from local businesses rather than international brands.

For brands operating internationally, Brazil is often:

  • a target market for expansion
  • a jurisdiction where copycats appear early
  • a place where brand protection is frequently overlooked until it's too late

Monitoring Brazilian trademark filings helps detect:

  • local brand conflicts
  • opportunistic filings
  • early signs of market entry by competitors

A Small but Important Detail

Brazilian trademark filings are typically submitted per class.

That means:

  • the same mark
  • the same owner
  • the same filing date

can appear as multiple separate applications.

This is not duplication.

It reflects how the registry itself structures trademark data.

In other jurisdictions like the EU, a single application can cover multiple classes. In Brazil, the same protection scope is often split into separate filings.

The example below shows this clearly - the same trademark appears multiple times, each tied to a different Nice class.

BrandCat preserves this structure so you can see exactly what exists in the official registry.

Example: Same Mark Across Multiple Classes

πŸ” What the Brazil Integration Includes

The Brazil (INPI) integration provides:

  • Monitoring of newly filed trademark applications
  • Registration status tracking
  • Application and registration numbers
  • Filing and publication dates
  • Owner and representative information (as available)
  • Nice class classifications
  • Unified trademark detail view inside BrandCat

All results are normalized into the same format used across USPTO, EUIPO, CNIPA, UKIPO, and other supported offices.
