We're expanding BrandCat's global trademark coverage in a major way.
BrandCat now supports trademark monitoring from the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA).
This marks one of the most significant additions to BrandCat's Trademark Monitor to date.
China is the largest trademark jurisdiction in the world, accounting for nearly half of all trademark filings globally.
π Supported Trademark Offices
With CNIPA added, BrandCat now monitors trademarks across the following jurisdictions:
- πΊπΈ United States - USPTO
- π¨π³ China - CNIPA
- πͺπΊ European Union - EUIPO
- π¨π Switzerland - IGE / SwissReg
- π¨π¦ Canada - CIPO
- π¦πΊ Australia - IP Australia
- π³πΏ New Zealand - IPONZ
Additional jurisdictions, including WIPO datasets, are planned next.
π What the CNIPA Integration Includes
The CNIPA integration provides comprehensive coverage of Chinese trademark data, including:
- Monitoring of newly filed trademark applications
- Status changes and lifecycle events
- Application and registration numbers
- Filing, registration, and expiry dates
- Owner and correspondent information (as published)
- Nice class classifications
- Unified trademark detail views inside BrandCat
Each CN trademark result opens into the same detailed, normalized view used across all other jurisdictions, allowing easy comparison with USPTO, EUIPO, and other offices.
π Why CNIPA Matters (A Lot)
According to WIPO statistics:
- China accounts for approximately 47 percent of all trademark applications worldwide
- Roughly 7 million trademark application classes are filed annually with CNIPA
- CNIPA activity alone exceeds the combined filings of the U.S., EU, Japan, and Korea
For global brands, this makes CNIPA one of the earliest and most important indicators of potential conflicts, copycats, or brand dilution.
Trademarks filed in China are often:
- Localized versions of global brands
- Defensive filings across additional Nice classes
- Early signals of international expansion or imitation
By monitoring CNIPA, BrandCat gives users visibility into the single most active trademark market on Earth.
π§ What This Means for Brand Owners
With CNIPA coverage, BrandCat users can now:
- Detect potential conflicts earlier in the global trademark lifecycle
- Monitor Chinese filings alongside Western jurisdictions in one dashboard
- Identify copycat or transliteration-based marks sooner
- Strengthen international brand protection strategies
All CNIPA data is presented in the same clean, unified format as other offices, eliminating the need to navigate local-language portals or fragmented databases.
π What's Next
CNIPA is a major milestone, but it's not the last.
We're continuing to expand BrandCat's trademark coverage and improve:
- Cross-jurisdiction status normalization
- Event timelines and lifecycle clarity
- Phonetic and partial-name matching
- Alerting and reporting accuracy
