BrandCat Adds Peru INDECOPI Trademark Monitoring With Translated Goods and Services

BrandCat now includes trademark monitoring for Peru through INDECOPI, the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property of Peru.

Peruvian trademark records are matched against the names being monitored in BrandCat. The results appear alongside the other offices in the normal trademark review workflow, with the original registry data preserved for checking when needed.

Why Peru is worth watching directly

An INDECOPI filing can be the first public sign that a brand is entering the Peruvian market, expanding a product line, working with a local distributor, or protecting a name before a launch.

Leaving Peru as an occasional manual registry check makes it easy for relevant filings to arrive late in the review process. Adding it to the same watch list as the rest of a portfolio makes the question much simpler: is this filing relevant to the brand, its owner, or the classes we care about?

The Peru source can be selected in the trademark-office filter with the rest of BrandCat's coverage. Results show the trademark, owner or applicant, Nice classes, application or registration number, filing date, opposition information where present, and current status.

The list also shows a useful English preview of Goods and Services where a translation is available. A class number alone can be too broad for a quick decision. The wording tells the reviewer whether the filing concerns veterinary services, software, food, clothing, transport, or something else entirely.

English Goods and Services, with the Spanish source retained

Peruvian records often provide Goods and Services in Spanish. BrandCat keeps the Spanish wording and provides an English translation for review.

For example, the original description:

Aceites esenciales; aceites perfumados; aceites aromaticos; aceites esenciales para su uso en ambientadores, aerosoles perfumados para interiores, recambios para dispensadores electricos y no electricos de ambientadores, productos de limpieza, fragancias y jabones para uso personal y del hogar

is shown in English as:

Essential oils; scented oils; aromatic oils; essential oils for use in air fresheners, scented sprays for interiors, refills for electric and non-electric air freshener dispensers, cleaning products, fragrances and soaps for personal and household use

The translation is there to make the review faster. The original text stays on the record so that the source wording is always available for comparison and legal review.

This approach is particularly helpful for the part of trademark monitoring that comes after a name match. A similar mark in an unrelated class may be routine. A less obvious name in a relevant specification can deserve a closer look. Reading the service description in English makes that triage more practical without hiding the registry source.

What the Peru integration includes

  • Matching Peruvian trademark records against monitored names
  • Structured INDECOPI trademark records
  • Application and registration numbers where available
  • Owner and applicant information from the source record
  • Nice classes and Goods and Services descriptions
  • English Goods and Services translations alongside original Spanish text
  • Filing dates and opposition-period dates where available
  • Raw registry status and a consistent review status in the BrandCat results list
  • The same detail, filtering, portfolio, alert, report, and CSV workflow used for other trademark offices

Dates and opposition periods

Source records may include an opposition-period start date and end date for a published Peruvian application. When the source record provides an end date, BrandCat carries it into the result as the opposition deadline.

That is more useful than guessing a fixed period from the filing date. A filing date tells you when an application was made. An opposition deadline belongs to the publication and opposition process, which can occur later and can vary by record.

If an opposition period is not available for a record, BrandCat does not try to reconstruct or invent one from the filing date. The result remains reviewable with the dates actually supplied by the source.

Peru fits into the same review workflow

The point is not to turn every national registry into a separate product area. A Peruvian result should be reviewable in the same place as related activity from Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Europe, or elsewhere in a client's portfolio.

That means a team can filter Peru on its own when needed, or review it together with the rest of a trademark watch. The original Spanish wording remains available, the English translation makes the specification easier to assess, and the record keeps its office-specific status and date context.
