BrandCat Adds Rospatent Russia Trademark Monitoring

We're expanding BrandCat's trademark coverage again.

BrandCat now supports trademark monitoring from Russia through Rospatent, the Federal Service for Intellectual Property.

Russian trademark data is now monitored continuously and matched against your protected keywords inside the same unified BrandCat workflow used for other supported offices.

Why Russia Matters

Russia is one of the larger trademark jurisdictions in the world by filing activity.

According to WIPO's latest statistical profile, Russia had 559,441 trademark filings, 297,407 trademark registrations, and 931,589 trademarks in force in 2024.[source]

That makes Russia a serious jurisdiction to monitor, not just a regional add-on.

For international portfolios, consumer brands, software companies, manufacturers, and businesses exposed to Cyrillic-script filings, Russian trademark activity can provide useful signals around:

  • local competition
  • parallel branding
  • defensive filings
  • potentially conflicting marks
  • brands appearing in Cyrillic or transliterated form

Russia is also especially interesting from a monitoring perspective because trademark review often involves multiple scripts.

A mark may appear in Cyrillic, in Latin characters, or in a form where both the sound and the meaning are relevant.

Example: Russian Trademark Matches in One View

BrandCat shows Rospatent matches in a structured results view, so you can quickly scan trademark names, owners, classes, filing dates, serial or registration numbers, and status from one place.

The result list includes the same overview elements BrandCat already exposes for other offices, including:

  • trademark name
  • original Cyrillic text where available
  • Latin transcription
  • English translation where available
  • owner details
  • Nice classes
  • filing date
  • serial or registration number
  • simplified status

This is especially useful for Russian records because trademark review often involves Cyrillic text, Latin transliterations, and owner or correspondent names that may be difficult to compare manually across different scripts.

Instead of treating Russia as a separate manual lookup process, BrandCat keeps Rospatent results inside the same workflow used for the rest of your monitored offices.

Cyrillic, Latin Transcription, and English Translation Support

Russian trademark records are exactly the kind of data where simple Latin-only keyword checking can miss useful context.

BrandCat shows the original Russian trademark text first, then adds a Latin-script transcription and an English translation where available.

For example, a mark such as:

ЛМА ЛАБОРАТОРИЯ МЕДИЦИНСКИХ АНАЛИЗОВ

can be reviewed together with its Latin form:

LMA LABORATORIA MEDICINSKIH ANALIZOV

and its English meaning:

LMA LABORATORY OF MEDICAL ANALYSES

That makes cross-script review much easier.

Filtering for either LMA or ЛМА can lead you to the same relevant Russian results, instead of forcing separate manual checks for Latin and Cyrillic variants.

BrandCat also translates Russian owner and correspondent fields where available, so reviewers can compare the official registry text with a readable English version without leaving the results workflow.

In practical terms, this helps with:

  • comparing Cyrillic marks with their Latin transcriptions
  • understanding the English meaning of Russian trademark text faster
  • filtering and reviewing related Latin/Cyrillic variants in the same workflow
  • reviewing Russian owner and correspondent names with translated support
  • spotting records that may otherwise look unrelated at first glance

Example: Cyrillic Rospatent Trademark Detail

Once a result looks relevant, BrandCat opens it in a normalized detail view.

In the example above, BrandCat keeps the original Russian registry data visible while also showing normalized supporting fields such as:

  • original Cyrillic trademark text
  • Latin transcription
  • English translation
  • original Russian status
  • simplified BrandCat status
  • owner and correspondent information
  • Nice class details

This keeps the legal source data intact while making the record easier to review.

Example: Latin-Script Marks in Rospatent

Rospatent does not only contain Cyrillic-script marks.

Many Russian trademark records include Latin-script brand names too, especially for international companies and global brands.

BrandCat keeps the original Russian source data visible while adding simplified status labels and translated owner or correspondent information where available.

That means Russian filings can be reviewed in a way that feels consistent with the rest of your international monitoring process.

What the Rospatent Integration Includes

The Rospatent integration provides:

  • Monitoring of Russian trademark applications and registrations
  • Cyrillic trademark text support
  • Latin transcription where available
  • English translation where available
  • Owner and correspondent information
  • Translated owner and correspondent fields where available
  • Application and registration numbers
  • Filing, registration, and expiry dates
  • Nice class details
  • Simplified status labels
  • Unified trademark detail view inside BrandCat

All results are normalized into the same format used across USPTO, EUIPO, CNIPA, UKIPO, WIPO, India, Brazil, Mexico, Hong Kong, and other supported offices.

Why This Is Useful in Practice

Trademark monitoring gets harder when every registry presents data differently.

With Russia, the difficulty is not only the registry format.

It is also the combination of:

  • Cyrillic marks
  • Latin marks
  • transliterated names
  • translated meanings
  • Russian owner and correspondent fields
  • international brands appearing in local records

Without normalization, reviewing these results can become slow and error-prone.

With Rospatent support inside BrandCat, Russian results now fit into the same monitoring workflow as your other jurisdictions, so you can review possible conflicts faster and with less registry-specific guesswork.

Class-Based Filing Volume Context

WIPO reports trademark filing activity using the number of classes specified in applications.

That matters when comparing Russia with other offices, because headline totals reflect class-count activity rather than a simple one-mark-equals-one-filing count.

Even with that context, Russia remains a major trademark office by volume.

For BrandCat users, the practical point is simple: Russian trademark activity is large enough, active enough, and script-complex enough to deserve structured monitoring.

BrandCat's Growing Global Coverage

With Russia added, BrandCat continues expanding trademark monitoring across important global jurisdictions, including:

  • 🇺🇸 USPTO – United States
